The F6F Hellcat was designed as a response to the Japanese Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighters. It was characterized by a solid construction, high firepower and ease of piloting which made it extremely effective in combat. This plane played a key role in the Battle of Midway, the Battle of Leyte and many other campaigns in the Pacific.
