The bread knife has a long, strong blade with a serrated edge. It marks the hard crust of the bread and cuts clean slices. The bread knife also cuts soft fruits and croissant without flattening them. With the serrated edge, the bread knife cuts in a completely straight line and "pulls" straight through the food being cut without the blade deviating from a straight line. The serrated edge doesn't need to be resharpened either. The bread knife should be an integral part of every basic knife set. It is also a component of some WMF knife sets.
