Professional super-telephoto zoom
Wildlife. Sports. Aircraft. Portraits. With its 100-400mm zoom range, advanced optics, and reliable weather sealing, this fast, full-frame mirrorless lens is as versatile as you need it to be. Superb optical performance at any distance ensures you’ll cover every eventuality. Welcome to your next workhorse.
When you can only take one lens
From extremely close to incredibly far—lock on. AF performance is fast, accurate, and exceptionally quiet. Birds to planes, tracking is rock-steady when used in conjunction with Nikon Z mirrorless cameras that incorporate Animal or Vehicle AF modes. The lens’ outstanding resolution is maintained even when using a teleconverter.
Sharp at any distance
Sharpness is superb throughout the frame. Nikon’s ED and Super ED glass control chromatic aberration from the centre to the edge of the image—even when shooting at the widest aperture or at close distances.
Always focused
Powerful VR performance equivalent to 5.5 stops lets you shoot handheld at slower shutter speeds without sacrificing sharpness. Minimum focus is just 0.75 m at the wide-angle end of the zoom range, and 0.98 m at full extension.
Out of the shadows
Anti-reflective ARNEO and Nano Crystal coatings virtually eliminate flare, ghosting, and coma by suppressing incidental light coming from any direction. Clarity is exceptional throughout the frame, even in backlit situations.
Built to endure
Go the distance with a lens that’s designed for the great outdoors. Full weather sealing keeps out dust and moisture, especially around the lens mount and all moving parts.¹ The front element has Nikon's protective non-stick fluorine coat, which repels dust and moisture and easily wipes clean.
Lightweight
Keep your kit bag manageable, whether it’s a hike to the hide or a walk to the pitch. Despite its versatile 100-400mm focal length range, this lens weighs in at approx. 1.35 kg.
Balanced
This lens maintains its centre of gravity when you zoom, letting you maintain precise framing from wide-angle to telephoto. Ideal when shooting video using a gimbal.
Reliable
A bird in a tree. A plane. This lens won’t retract or creep after you zoom in. You don’t even need to lock it in place first. Just point straight up—and shoot!
Controlled
An extremely small zoom-ring rotation angle of just 80° lets you zoom all the way from wide-angle to maximum telephoto without changing your grip. Never miss a shot.
Precision times three
The zoom and focus rings adjust with just the right amount of torque. The slim, silent control ring is perfectly placed for smooth operation with your finger—and can be used for aperture control, exposure compensation, or ISO.
Ready for video
Focus breathing is all but eliminated, so you can adjust focus without affecting the shot’s angle of view. Aperture control is super-smooth and stable, delivering natural exposure changes throughout the scene.
Versatility at a touch
From subject tracking to metering, bracketing, and more. You can assign a huge number of different functions to the lens’ two Fn buttons—experiencing a level of operational versatility familiar to users of Nikon DLSRs.
